Proximal leg DVT

Compression if no obvious echogenic (bright) thrombus
Negative compression when opposite vessel walls touch
Color doppler to assist with vessel ID

Rule out proximal leg DVT with sequential compression:
Common femoral vein (as cephalad as possible)
CFV until greater saphenous vein enters medial
CFV until splits into

  • deep femoral vein posterior
  • superficial femoral vein

SFV to popliteal vein
POP vein in popliteal fossa until trifurcation
